The CV of Roel van Ravens is rich bust mostly connected with education of Martial Arts in military and civil organisations, particulary Judo and Ju-Jitsu, where he achieved Jiu-Jitsu 6th Dan and Judo 3rd Dan. He was the organizer of the first Ju-Jitsu tournament in The Netherlands named "Open Rotterdam Championships".
From 1958 to 1960 he worked in the Sports Academy C.I.O.S, with speciality Ju-Jitsu and Judo. From 1960 to 1962 he worked as a Military Sport Instructor in the Dutch Army. In 1963 he established the Academy for the martial arts named "Sportschool van Ravens" where he worked as professional instructor for Ju-Jitsu and Judo for 50 years.
In the Dutch federation he served different funcions such as Member of the District Board of the Judo Bond Netherland, as Member of the National Bord of J.B.N and as Chairman of the District Examination Committee for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Dan.
Most of us will remember Roel as a referee and referee instructor. He has been a Judo referee from 1973 to 1990 and Ju-Jitsu referee for 36 years, Dutch referee Committee Director and the last 16 years he served as JJEU Referee Committee Director and JJIF Referee Committee Vice Director. He was working in all European and World Championships during the last 30 years, at the World Games in Lahti (Finland) in 1997, Akita (Japan) in 2001, in Duisburg (Germany) in 2005 inKaohsiung (Taiwan) in 2009 and finally in Cali (Colombia) in 2013. Roel held many international and continental courses as instructor all over the world.
In recognition and acknowledgement of his outstanding contribution to Martial Arts, particulary in developing and promoting Ju-Jitsu, constructive and dedicated work as a referee and as referee Director, and with warmest thanks for example of sportsmanlinke behaviour and professionalism, the President of JJEU has a priviliege to honour Roels van Ravens with the LIVETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
